Monday Randoms

Hello!

I hope you all had a very fabulously relaxing weekend - I know I did!

First, can I just say I was quite excited to start off my week with the new season of Kourtney And Kim Take Miami!

Yes, I'm one of those people and not even afraid to admit it. I will say I am not a Kim fan - I solely watch the show for one man only

Okay, and of course his better half Kourtney! But Scott is the only reason I can get the hubby to watch with me - he's hilarious...

Anyways...moving on!
(for those of you that haven't switched sites due to my questionable taste in shows)

I got my Giancarlo Piretti chairs delivered Friday morning and they are oh-so-ugly! However, in a few short days they are going to be nothing short of stunning. I went on the fabric hunt and narrowed it down to two options

I know, I know, BORING! But, I've decided to accept the fact that I'm a neutral kind of girl and go with what I love. The colours are slightly off here, but I'm pretty sold on the top option.

Next on the list will be refinishing my sofa, and I think I've decided to go with something very much like this

I love how there's subtle gold tones in this fabric that very much compliment the brass legs. And if I can't find something equally as good I might try a Black pseudo leather of sorts.

And that's the update on what's going down design-wise at our place.

.....

I'll leave you with a few spaces I've been swooning over the past few days.

I can't get enough of those doors - the lacquer with gold hardware is perfection. And the mouldings all around don't hurt either.

I break for Hallways.

And I know that this has been all over the place, but I only just realized the walls are TILE - Amazing! This would be so fun in a kids bathroom!

Hope you have a great start to your week!

Brass Fixtures & the Stuff Dreams are Made of...

Morning friends (or aft, evening etc.)!

Have been on the lighting lookout for a couple
of clients lately as well as for some kitchen
lighting for above my island, so just a quick
post this morning with a round-up of some of
the ceiling fixtures that have caught my eye.

Transitional - Vintage - Masculine - Mid-Century
Classic - Trad - Glam

Although I love all of these fixtures,
I am head over heels for the brass
square flush mount and have suggested it
for one of my client's front foyer.

The foyer does not have high ceilings,
so the flush mount would be a perfect
(and beautiful) option!!

... And went to bed last night dreaming of
this Liz O'Brien creation...

Mother of all things beautiful - oh my!!!

Need to make this here dream a reality.
Like for certain.

Loooooving the fringe!!! And the blush.
And the brass. And the...

Big hugs,
Christine

Random Musings

A little bit of a random post today!

Here's some (not so great quality) pictures of a few of the pieces that we picked up over the weekend.
*Please don't judge me on the styling - or lack thereof - I haven't had time to figure it all out, and my 1 year old ends up throwing it all on the floor anyways!*

One of our new consoles.
Still trying to decide if this should stay here or not. The room is already full of black and I'm not sure when enough is enough ;)

Finally a coffee table! It's been too long with having nothing...

Our little entry sofa.

Loving how it feels in the space - still a little unsure on the colour in real life.
Oh and again with the kiddies - just noticed the one random vase in the middle of the table after I posted this!

......

Next on my list is our playroom (the door on the left of the above pic).
It's one of those rooms that no matter how I try I can't nail it down. We bought a larger version of the above sofa for there, but I'll be making a few changes to it due to some unforeseen issues. I can't decide if I want to go beige, black, black leather or some other colour for the upholstery.

I've also been tossing around the idea of painting the walls a rosey pink. Something similar to either of these colours...

Mythic Paint - Rose Day

Mythic Paint - Rose Shard

But again.. can't fully decide.

I'm also loving the new Kasbah rug by West Elm

So that's an option, however I haven't seen it in person so that could change. I'd love some Madeline Weinrib action, but it's not all that practical with little ones!

I also need to figure out some chairs for extra seating - if only I could get my hands on a pair of reasonably priced Platner Side Chairs I'd be one happy girl!

Anyways, stay tuned on that front as I'm sure I'll be throwing around more ideas in the near future.

.....

Here are two spaces that I've recently come across and have been loving!`

Well, that's all for now!

Bathroom Beauties

I for one don't remember having been so happy
to see the beginning of a new week!!

Yesterday marked day 7 of the flu at our house,
and nerves are getting a bit frayed ;).

I have high hopes for this week though,
including the application of a bit of make-up
and actually leaving the house!

Hoping this finds you all healthy!!

To start the week, Sarah and I are doing
something we have been meaning to get going
since having first started the blog - a side-by-side,
if you will, of our picks for a given space,
piece of furniture etc.

Today, our top 3 picks for bathrooms.

-C-

#1

This first bathroom was designed by Greg Stewart
of Orlando Diaz-Azcuy Design Associates.

In my humble opinion, this design is brilliant.

The use of the same material throughout the space
lends it a sense of cohesiveness and simplicity
that makes the space feel so serene and calming -
exactly as it should be.

The pairing of the apricot and blush with the brass
is stunning, and I love how all of the
surfaces are highly reflective and the
effect that that creates.

And lastly, this space to me strikes a very good
balance between contemporary and classic.

#2

This bathroom by Suzanne Kasler has been
a favourite for some time.

Again, loving the shades of blush/apricot
and its glammy, timeless appeal.

#3

And last but certainly not least,
I vote for this Ruthie Sommers number
that was recently featured in Veranda.

Leave it to Ruthie, everything in this bathroom
is exquisite - the Moroccan mirror,
the vintage glass fixture, the cabinetry.

This bathroom is unexpected, and I love every
last detail down to the antique vanity stool
with the tufted yellow cushion!

-S-

I find it's rare that I see a space and love every single aspect of it. There certainly is no exceptions for bathrooms - it may even be worse as there are so many finishes in one small space.

#1

This above washroom is one of those rare finds - I don't think there is a single thing I'd change about it!
I love the dark masculine feel of it all, yet it still has some feminine touches that make it balanced. I only wish I could see the rest of this master suite...

#2

David Hicks never disappoints me! As I'm sure it's becoming evident in my posts, I crave that perfect mix of modern and traditional. In this bathroom that mix is done so well! I love the vintage chandelier and large guilt mirror up against the modern finishes and Saarinen stool!

#3

I am loving mirrored vanities these days. Although I'd probably switch out the wall mirror for something brass or gilt myself, I still love this space - you can never go wrong with floor to ceiling marble!

Let us know what you think, and your own favourite picks
- we'd love to hear and to add to our collection!

Friday Files

F-R-I-D-A-Y...

...and although on the wellness front, this has not been
one of the healthiest weeks for me and my
flu-ridden fam-damily, there
have been some brighter spots,
including our first sale at One King's Lane!!!

via Pinterest

I don't mind telling you though that it was a bit
bittersweet because the piece in question was
my beloved regency etagere!

You may recall that I had slated it for my office until
I came to the realization that there wasn't going
to be much of a business if I continued to
keep everything I bought for myself - funny that ;).

But really, the first sale was very exciting and there
are a number of pieces coming up in the days and weeks
ahead, so stay tuned...

And if you haven't already, you must check out their
vintage and market finds section as they add fab
new vintage pieces each and every morning friends!!

Well and then... I was delighted to see that
Mary McDonald had launched a new collection
for Schumacher!!

Amongst my faves:

Fabric #1: Firenze in blush conch

I love the idea of a hint of pink in an otherwise
masculine space, and this fabric
accomplishes just that with the blush/black/other combo.

(And the blush reminds me of the velvet on
the backside of Christine's tiger pillow for 219,
which of course I adore!)

Fabric #2: Vanderbilt Velvet in Dove

Love this pattern too and think it would work
well with so many different pieces.
This on a sofa would be incredible,
as well as on any number of chairs.

Fabric #3: Chinois Palais in Blush Conch

And for all you lovers of Chinese-inspired wall panels,
MM has come up with this beautiful 100% linen fabric in
a scale/width that would lend itself to draperies,
bed covers etc.

This could be positively gorgeous as draperies.

#4: Madame Wu Applique in Swan

Also loving this applique, and its scale
is substantial (8") so would be fabulous on
a stool, pillow, bed cover,
you name it!
Okay, and lastly, not good...

How is it possible to have a wish list so shortly
after Christmas??

As I'm sure I don't need to tell you, the new Lonny
came out yesterday, where they featured this
Bernhardt console that will be available come Spring.

It doesn't get any better than a cream and
brass combo for me, and I love the thought of this
piece as a bar cart/console.

You might remember this line from High Point Market
where Bernhardt featured the coffee and
side tables - equally stunning -
not to mention the screen!

But I'm thinking that the console would be a real keeper.
Clean lines, classic piece - the kind that would be
with you for the long haul.

Can you see the justification wheels in motion
over here friends - hmmm, can anyone out there
think of another reason why I should have this ;)?

Have a fabulous weekend all, and hope to see
you again next week!

Until then...

Hugs,
Christine

C's Likes for the NY!

Happy New Year 219 readers
- we've missed you!!

via Rue Magazine

So today is part two of Sarah's post from Monday
about our design inspiration for the New Year,
and oh my, did Sarah nail it or what!!!

And here, a look at what I'm loving for 2013:

1. Saturated Colour

So we all know that emerald green is Pantone's
colour pick of the year, which thrills me because I
am all about the saturated colours and jewel tones
this year -- and not just as accents!

Emerald, sapphire, rose, canary yellow -
I'm loving it all!

2. Velvet

And rich colours + velvet = double love for me!

Long lumbars and bolsters, Billy Baldwin style sofas
(especially in blues), poufs/ottomans are
all prime candidates for a little velvet love.

And speaking of velvet pillow goodness,
we are very excited to be nearing
the launch of the 219 velvet pillow collection!!

You have already seen B and B's gorgeous tiger pillow:

... and the collection will be growing to include
a number of other velvet lovelies!!

Can't wait to share them with you!

Coco Chanel: Manhattan

So darn much to love here -
colour, black walls, gold sconces,
and of course, velvet...

4. Mid-Century

Like Sarah, my love for mid-century pieces endures
and will without a doubt be a strong influence
in the year to come.

These days, I'm all about the upholstered parsons chairs,
the Karl Springer waterfall console and let's be honest,
any mid-century brass fixture!

5. Brass/Gild

And brass/gild are here to stay for me as well!

Rococo-style gilded sconces are one of my favourite
pieces for this year, and I love how they mix
with other periods - it's still all about
the mix!
via 1stdibs

I am also really loving the feel of brass
wall lamps, and will be using a pair of these babies to
flank my client's velvet Billy Baldwin style sofa that
we are in the process of having made.

And a couple of classics:

The faux bamboo brass etagere is a staple in my mind,
and the irresistible Gabriella Crespi Z Desk:

6. Pattern-Palooza

And lastly, I am definitely gravitating towards pattern
this year, and the grander the statement the better!

In closing, I leave you with this quote by
Albert Hadley that best sums up my design philosophy
for this coming year and always, really:

Surround yourself with what you love and
who you love, and I don't think you can go wrong!

One of my all-time favourite shots:

With that, I wish all of you a new year that brings
you all the fulfillment you so very much deserve!!

Big hugs, Christine
